Dichroic Beam Splitter
Dichroic beam splitter at oblique incidence. Shows s- and p-polarisation splitting characteristic of dichroic filters used at 45°. Effective optical thickness shifts with cos(θ).
cos θH = 0.954, cos θL = 0.873 (angles inside the layers)
Total layers = 14
Stop-band centre at θ ≈ λ₀(cos θH + cos θL)/2 = 502.3 nm (first order). The p band is narrower than the s band.
Model and references
Exact. The equations are exact within the stated assumptions, or are a standard's tabulated values. The results are as good as the inputs. About the tiers
Transfer matrix for s and p with constant, lossless indices; layers are quarter waves at normal incidence; back surface ignored. Unpolarized R is the mean of R_s and R_p. The centre shift shown is first order.
