Data

n²(λ) = 1 + Σ Bᵢλ²/(λ² − Cᵢ), Vd = (nd − 1)/(nF − nC)

Δnabs(T) = (n² − 1)/(2n) · (D₀ΔT + D₁ΔT² + D₂ΔT³ + (E₀ΔT + E₁ΔT²)/(λ² − λTK²)), ΔT = T − 20 °C

Sellmeier coefficients, nd, Vd, density and thermo-optic coefficients from the SCHOTT optical glass catalog (2017). Each formula reproduces its catalog nd to 1e-5 and Vdto 0.01. dn/dT and Δn are absolute (in vacuum), from SCHOTT TIE-19, valid from −100 to +140 °C and 365 to 1014 nm (SCHOTT data sheets); n is the catalog index at 20 °C. Values relative to air are larger by about n × 0.9×10⁻⁶/K, from the air's own dn/dT ≈ −(nair− 1)/T. Curves cover each glass's 0.3–2.5 µm data range. The crystal and fused silica Vdcome from each set's published formula (fused silica: Malitson 1965, Vd 67.82).

Model and references

Exact. The equations are exact within the stated assumptions, or are a standard's tabulated values. The results are as good as the inputs. About the tiers

SCHOTT catalog values: Sellmeier fits that reproduce each glass's catalog n_d to 1e-5 and V_d to 0.01. V_d of the crystals and fused silica comes from their published formulas. dn/dT and Δn are TIE-19's absolute (vacuum) values for −100 to +140 °C and 365–1014 nm (SCHOTT's stated range); values relative to air are larger by about n × 0.9e-6 /K. Valid inside each fit's wavelength range.
