Field of View Calculator

Object-side field of view and pixel footprint from sensor size and magnification, Nyquist sampling λ/(4NA) and the eyepiece field FN/M.

Model: Exact

Results

FOV width, sensor/M0.6668 mm
FOV height0.5008 mm
FOV diagonal0.8339 mm
Pixel footprint p/M325.0 nm
Nyquist pixel λ/(4NA)183.3 nm
Magnification for Nyquist35.5×
Eyepiece field FN/M1.100 mm

The camera is undersampled by 1.77×: the camera loses detail the objective passes.

The incoherent image carries spatial frequencies up to 2NA/λ; sampling them at Nyquist needs an object-side pixel no larger than λ/(4NA). The eyepiece field is the field stop FN seen through the objective.

Model and references

Exact. The equations are exact within the stated assumptions, or are a standard's tabulated values. The results are as good as the inputs. About the tiers

First-order imaging without distortion: object sizes are sensor sizes divided by the magnification at the sensor. Nyquist uses the incoherent cutoff 2NA/λ; a pixel at that limit still loses contrast near the cutoff.
